When Evan was ready to propose to Cassandra, he decided to be elaborate. This guy went to the spot he planned to propose A YEAR IN ADVANCE to ensure that he would have the perfect sunset, and also, the perfect everything, for when he proposed. That, my friends, is dedication. And when Cassandra told me the story of HOW he proposed, I realized that this was so, so good, I couldn't just slap it in here and tell you. Nah. Instead, you can follow along, and read it all for yourself.
"So he planned this when I was living in Chile. First, I never knew at the time but he bought the ring about six months prior to asking me, and I WAS THERE. He took us out with our married friends, Joy and Corbin."
"He convinced me that I was helping Joy get a gift for Corbin, and he was distracting Corbin. Turned out that they were actually distracting me and he bought the ring and stored it under MY SEAT in MY CAR. "
^^^look at that smug face. That's the face of someone who has achieved the coveted title of Courtship, Level: Expert.
"Anywho, so the semester he proposed we made a pact to take turns planning dates for each other every other week, during school (cause everyone knows life gets in the way of actually dating most of the time)."
"That Saturday was his day."
"We went to the farmers market that morning as usual. Nothing was amiss. Then after lunch he told me he needed to finish a paper before we could go out."
" Eventually it came time for him to pick me up and no one came (it was weird because he's always on time)."
"Soon, my roommate came in acting all nonchalant, and innocently says she found a note with my name on it, by our front door (thats sarcasm, she is awful at being subtle ;))."
"That's when my stomach both dropped and shot upwards all at once. Haha! (Mind you I have always been a huge commitment phobe, Evan truly is the hopeless romantic in this relationship, but really, I love it)"
".....So the note was purposefully folded so that I could only see like an 8th at a time."
"...And I was warned that if I opened something before being instructed in the note, the world might end."
"Oh, I forgot. The note was attached to a small MP3 player. Music was how we first bonded, and has always been "our thing". So i was supposed to listen to the songs as I walked from place to place. "
"The note ended up taking me to all of the most important places to us for as long as we'd known each other."
"He took us to our dorms where we first met..."
"..where we had our first kiss..."
"...where we went for our first concert, etc. Each with a cheesy, cutesy note."
"Eventually, it led me to the Shattuck Arboretum."
"Haha, I haven't thought about this or told this story in almost a year. It's making my tummy all twingy." <<< I had to add this, because she's so adorable. *squee*
"As I walked the path of the arboretum, I noticed that I heard a cello playing in the background."
"Thats when I started crying. I played violin for 9 years and had always wanted to play the cello. "
One of his best friends played in the college orchestra. He was playing the song "A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri.....and under a willow tree, I saw Evan, and our friend with the cello.
"In fact, we later recalled that he never actually asked me, and I never actually said yes. He just kneeled and held out the ring, crying."
"After he asked, he had a picnic set up at the top of one of those hills looking over the arboretum. We sat up there drinking cider, eating baguettes, brie, gouda and fruit as we took it all in. " <3
"It seems like a lot when I type the story out....but I think I loved it the most because it was so personal, and he gave me so much time to myself."
"He knew how nervous I would be, and how hard it is for me to make snap decisions. I got a walk, music, his reasons why he loves me, and my own thoughts to work it all out on my own, before I saw him."
We asked Cassandra if she could say anything to this amazing guy who has courted and won her hand, and continues to celebrate her in every way. She did. I cried.
I know that it seems I am always full of doubts...
...That I am scared to jump into something we both know so little about...
But for every moment I am filled with doubt, there are dozens of white winter mornings playing Stratego...
... laughter over hundreds of cups of coffee.....
...mix CDs during road trips....
... head banging sessions in concerts....
"...and marathons of Firefly."
Simply put, there are so many moments when I look at you and simply know....
Living life with you.....
...For as long as we can....
...Is the best leap I'll ever take.
I'm not saying we're stoked out of our minds to shoot this wedding--but, uh, we're stoked out of our minds to shoot this wedding. <3 We can't wait, you two.
